Faust

'Nother random OC thing. Someone for Mephisto to antagonize I guess.

EDIT (11/28/09 12:16AM) : goddammit I sounded emo when I first put the sketch up. This is Faust, not really an OC beyond "he's" a personification of my scattered thought process. In reality "he" doesn't have a gender, and I have a drawing of "him" that shows he's clearly thirdgender/neuter/androgynous, but for some reason haven't put it up yet. I'll get it sometime when I bring my sketchbook home (is currently trapped in my locker).
Anyways, don't even know how I came up with the original (not this one, the one I need to put up) drawing anymore, but for a while after reading Goethe's "Faust" I had kinda compared myself to Faust for the way his mind kinda wandered and he worried about everything and couldn't really live. I kinda began imagining my mind as the disarrayed study, and the scrambled process of putting random thoughts together as a means to achieve an end as "Faust." While "Faust" had existed for a few years (actually technically for as long as my thought process has been this fcked up), it didn't have an actual form. Then randomly one night a couple weeks ago I decided to give it one, despite its almost literal kicking and screaming (it doesn't like me XD ). In this first drawing "he" was naked, mainly because "he" was giving me hell enough without having to try thinking about clothes. So okay, he settled down after a couple days, and then my other OC Mephistopheles (completely unintentional, mind you) suddenly shows up (since I have no control over the bastard whatsoever) and takes an interest (and he doesn't give two shits about anything normally), but that's a completely different story XD.
The funny thing is, I started this picture out with Isa in mind, but then all of a sudden it turned into Faust and I was just kinda like "whatever, you want the jacket, that's cool, makes it easier" since I was having a fail time drawing Isa anyways, but that's why some proportions are a lil bit off, but it's actually not too bad. ASDFG I'm ranting, but whatever.
Kinda trying to poke at textures, and I think it looks kinda fail atm D; wut do you ppl think?

EDIT (12:52 AM 11/30/09) : Found some skin tutorial thing and color palettes. It looks really fugly now and I know it, but I haven't gotten rid of most of the black lines yet, and I still need to play around with brush stuff. Tweaked the pants so they weren't so purple (didn't look purple on teh tablet D; ). Put the text in as a semi-placeholder for if I decide to do something else with it. Kinda realized that if I'm gonna change my style for the face I should probably work on the coat and stuff too, but that'll come later XD. No idea for a real background yet, but that's not for a while XD;

EDIT (12/6/09 11:28 PM) : Done with the face for now, definately gonna go back to it and fix the orangey side a bit later. Starting to work more on the coat, probably gonna fix the fugly buttons and other metal bit next DX.

EDIT (12/10/09 12:55 AM) : Fixed the orangey side a bit and the overhighlighted chin. Working on eliminating excess outlines. Scribbly-finished shading the coat (I personally liek it this way). Redid buttons, working on fixing the metal thing. Softened the boot highlights. Shaded the hair (my favorite thing to do evar in a pic). I think I'm for really done with the face unless something suddenly jumps out as really fugly.
